📞 Call now 469-250-0415Yes. PERGOLUX motorised awnings are designed for straightforward DIY installation, making them suitable for most Australian homes.
With 2–3 people to help lift the awning into position, most homeowners can complete the installation by following our detailed installation guide, step-by-step video tutorials, and the PERGOLUX app.
If you'd rather leave it to the experts, we also offer access to professional installation through our trusted installation partners in selected areas across Australia.
Most PERGOLUX awnings can be installed in around 1–2 hours, depending on the wall type and the size of the awning. The installation process includes:
- Measuring and marking the mounting position
- Installing the wall brackets
- Lifting and securing the awning cassette
- Connecting the power supply
- Testing the motor and remote control
With the right preparation and a couple of helpers, installation is quick and straightforward.
You don't need specialist trade equipment to install a PERGOLUX awning.
For most installations, you'll need:
- 2 sturdy step ladders or A-frame ladders
- Power drill (hammer drill for concrete or solid brick)
- Masonry drill bits (14mm or 16mm, depending on your mounting surface)
- Socket wrench or ratchet set
- 6mm Allen (hex) key
- Spirit level
- Tape measure
- Pencil or marker
- Caulking gun (for chemical anchor resin and exterior silicone where required)
- Digital wall scanner (recommended to detect electrical cables and plumbing before drilling)
Always ensure you're using the correct fixings for your wall type.
We recommend 2 to 3 adults.
Drilling and bracket setup can be handled by one person, but lifting the cassette – which weighs roughly 100 to 170 lbs depending on size – safely requires a team.
PERGOLUX provides the heavy-duty wall brackets (designed for M12 bolts), but because every house is built differently, the wall anchors must be purchased separately from your local construction materials store. Use the table below to know exactly what to buy based on your awning size and wall material. How many mounting brackets and anchors you need, depends on the width of your awning.
For awnings that are 16 ft wide or wider, the awning comes with 3 mounting brackets and you need 12 anchors.
For awnings that are less than 16 ft wide, the awning comes with 2 mounting brackets and you need 8 anchors.
The anchor depends on your wall material. Here is a quick reference:
Poured concrete: M12 bolt anchor, 2-3/4" (70mm) embedment
Solid brick, double brick & natural stone: M12 × 140mm threaded rod set in injection resin, 3-1/2" (90mm) embedment
Perforated / hollow brick: M12 × 160mm threaded rod + 16×130mm injection sieve sleeve + resin
Sand-lime brick: M12 × 140mm threaded rod set in injection resin, 3-1/2" (90mm) embedment
Wood studs / timber frame: 8 × 100mm heavy-duty structural wood screw with washer, minimum 2" (50mm) embedment into the stud
Steel structure: M12 Grade 8 through-bolt with washers and locking nut
Concrete ceiling / overhang: M12 bolt anchor at 2-3/4" (70mm) embedment, or M12 rod + resin at 3-1/2" (90mm)
Aerated concrete (AAC / Ytong): Engineer's assessment strongly recommended
Not at all. For insulated facades you use a specialized 1/2" thermal standoff anchor (typically about 4-3/8" of usable length outside the wall). These engineered anchors pass through the insulation and anchor deep into the solid masonry behind it. The awning rests entirely on the heavy-duty steel cone of the anchor, so your insulation takes zero structural load and won't be compressed or damaged.
Yes. However, hollow brick walls require specialized anchors instead of standard masonry bolts. Review our assembly and mounting guide for the correct anchor specifications for your unique exterior wall type.
Three simple steps can save you a lot of hassle.
First, look for the obvious signs: electrical cables and plumbing pipes usually run straight up and down, or across from power outlets, light switches, taps and drains. Second, check your home's plans if you have them. Third, use a wall scanner (easy to buy or rent from most hardware stores) to check where you plan to drill. Spending five minutes checking now can save you from a costly mistake later.
We recommend mounting the brackets between about 8'6" and 10' from the ground. Keep in mind the "drop": for every 1 ft the awning projects outward, the front edge descends by roughly 3 inches. If you mount at 10 ft with a 10 ft projection, the front edge will sit at roughly 7'6" – well above head height and clear of outward-opening doors. Always leave at least 8 inches of vertical clearance above any door or window frame.
Yes. PERGOLUX awnings can be installed on either a wall or a ceiling, provided the mounting surface is structurally sound.
Concrete, solid brick and structural timber are all suitable when installed with the correct anchors.
Yes. The pitch can be adjusted both during installation and afterwards. This lets you fine-tune the amount of shade, improve water runoff during light rain, or adapt the angle as the sun changes throughout the year.
No.
PERGOLUX awnings are a plug-and-play solution. Each awning includes a 24.9 ft power cable with a waterproof PERGOLUX connector that plugs directly into a standard outdoor wall socket. No hardwiring is required for a standard installation.
Yes. PERGOLUX awnings are engineered for outdoor use and are weather protected. We recommend plugging the awning into a weatherproof outdoor power point, just as you would with any outdoor appliance.
No worries. Every PERGOLUX awning includes a manual crank, so you can still open or close it if there's a power outage.
Not if it's installed properly. The cable can be routed neatly along brickwork or hidden inside slim, paintable cable conduit, making it blend in with your home.
See a real example here:
No. The full cassette design completely encloses the fabric and arms when retracted, protecting them from dirt, rain and the elements. Simply close it when you're finished, and it's ready whenever you need it again.
PERGOLUX awnings are certified to Wind Resistance Class 2, meaning they're structurally tested to remain stable in normal winds up to 24 mph. For stronger or unexpected gusts, the optional vibration sensor automatically tells the motor to retract – so you don't need to rush home if the weather changes while you're out.
Yes. The 8.3 oz/yd² polyester fabric with PU coating efficiently repels water, meaning light rain will not disrupt your plans. For heavy or prolonged rainfall, we recommend retracting the awning to prevent water from pooling on the fabric.
No. When retracted, the fabric and arms are fully enclosed inside the aluminium cassette, helping keep everything secure and quiet.
PERGOLUX AuroWeave™ fabric is specifically engineered to resist mold. The PU-treated surface is water-repellent yet breathable, which prevents moisture from being trapped between layers when the fabric is rolled up. The non-stick surface finish stops pollen and organic matter from embedding in the fibers – the main food source for mold – so a simple rinse with a garden hose keeps the fabric clean. The full cassette enclosure adds a further layer of protection by shielding the rolled fabric from damp conditions all winter.
PERGOLUX AuroWeave™ polyester undergoes 1000 hours of laboratory Xenon-arc UV testing, equivalent to several years of harsh outdoor exposure. It achieves Level 4 color fastness – most awnings only reach Level 2 or 3. In practice this means consistent color across the entire surface with no uneven fading. The full cassette housing also shields the fabric from UV whenever the awning is retracted, dramatically extending its visual life compared to open-system awnings.
For a patio, bigger is generally better.
Remember that shade coverage changes throughout the day as the sun moves. If your main seating area is 10 ft deep, a 10 ft projection only covers it fully at high noon – the shade falls further back as the sun lowers in the afternoon.
We recommend choosing a projection that extends at least 1.5 to 3 ft beyond your main seating area to stay comfortably shaded all afternoon.
For balconies, choose a width that leaves 4–6 inches of breathing room on either side of the cassette. Make sure the projection (how far it extends) doesn't overhang the edge of the balcony, since that can catch upward wind drafts.
PERGOLUX stands behind its engineering with component-specific warranties:
10-year warranty on the structural frame and wall brackets.
5-year warranty on the motor and mechanical components, including the folding arms.
5-year warranty on fabric, electronics, controls, lighting, and accessories.
PERGOLUX awnings are designed to be repairable, not replaced. While we engineer our products to last for decades, in the unlikely event that the premium tubular motor breaks, it can be replaced without touching the rest of the awning. And because every unit includes a manual override, you can still operate the awning fully even if the motor is being serviced.
A standard awning installation on a private property typically won't require a building permit, so long as you're not planning on doing any custom electrical work.
However, requirements can vary depending on where you live, whether you're in an apartment or home, or if you need to get HOA approval before installing.
